Knowing a foreign language is one of the most important competencies today. In addition to English, which is considered the common language of the globalizing world, many people develop themselves in the second and third foreign language. Well, why is it so important to talk about foreign languages, just about communication and culture? Or are people learning foreign languages in the direction of interests and commercial concerns?
Firms seeking to sign up, export or import in their field of business, especially international studies, are looking for employees who have developed themselves in their fields and who speak a foreign language. This situation is also pushing people to learn foreign languages. The foreign language, which also varies according to the countries where the commercial activities will be carried out, is of critical importance in every sector.
The Turkish company, working with a French company, wants to continue on its way with its employees who speak French by absolute means. Even though the common language of English is often used, French becomes a very critical element because of the strengthening of relationships and the transfer of all kinds of emotions and thoughts to the right person. In this context, even the employees of the company, such as engineers or office staff who are not very involved with the customer, are selected among French speakers. Again with a similar example, the importance of the situation can be grasped by the fact that many German car companies need to know what they are looking for in their employees. Some companies, even while working for their companies, can even make tests and interviews on the language.
The necessity of knowing languages in order to be permanent in the foreign partners in the countries where they are located is a necessity in order to provide the element of “quick and accurate sharing of information”, although it is very sad and tragic, even though it is our time.
In the newly emerging and generally SME-oriented family business, the commercial and manufacturing activities that have been carried out by more traditional methods to date have changed with the introduction of foreign language workers in these companies. In office staff, it is inevitable that a foreign language-speaking staff can easily and quickly have a duty as customer representative.
In a similar move, it is also argued that foreign language-speaking engineers or white-collar employees can take the time to the medium-sized companies they work with. Because the technical staff or engineer who speaks a foreign language will be able to participate in the fairs realized abroad in order to understand the foreign machines which the company will take more easily, communicate more easily and directly with the technical service, and even see the new machines in terms of plans for future of the company. In this way, medium sized companies will have gained new insights and different perspectives.
